FAQs

What are nutritional supplements?

A dietary supplement, also known as a food supplement or nutritional supplement, is a preparation intended to supplement the diet and provide nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, fiber, fatty acids, or amino acids, that may be missing or may not be consumed in sufficient quantities in a person’s diet. Some countries define dietary supplements as foods, while in others they are defined as drugs or natural health products.

Supplements containing vitamins or dietary minerals are included as a category of food in the Codex Alimentarius, a collection of internationally recognized standards, codes of practice, guidelines and other recommendations relating to foods, food production and food safety. These texts are drawn up by the Codex Alimentarius Commission, an organization that is sponsored by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

What are Neutraceuticals?

A "neutraceutical" is a term that blends "nutrition" and "pharmaceutical." It refers to products that are derived from food sources and provide health benefits beyond basic nutrition. These products often come in the form of supplements, functional foods, or fortified drinks. They are typically used to promote overall health, prevent disease, or support specific health concerns.

Neutraceuticals can include ingredients like vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, probiotics, and herbal extracts. Unlike traditional pharmaceuticals, neutraceuticals are generally not regulated by the same strict standards, which means their claims and effectiveness can vary. However, many people use them to enhance their wellness or address specific health issues, often in conjunction with a balanced diet.

Some examples of neutraceuticals might include fish oil supplements, turmeric capsules for anti-inflammatory benefits, or probiotic yogurts for gut health. The idea is that these products can act as both food and medicine.

Where do I find your expiration dates?

Some of our products have an expiration date printed on the bottom. Other manufacturing partners operate under the FDA rule 21CFR111, which does not allow them to have an expiration date, but rather a date of manufacture. You can read this code (lot number) easily. It’s six digits (YYMMDD) (year month day) followed by xxxxx– (5-digit item code). So, 180321-12191 would mean Edens C was manufactured March 21, 2018. Our bottles are nitrogen flushed and an induction seal applied, so there is not any oxygen in the bottle to degrade the ingredients. Further, our products are distinguishable by our exclusive Violite® container. Violite® is an innovative, dark violet-colored, PET plastic bottle that blocks light frequencies between 450-720 nanometers, which can create radiation damage to ingredients. When we do not use the Violite® bottles, we use amber glass. The exception is our Hemp products. These products have an expiration date printed on the bottom of the bottle.

What are excipients?

Excipients are binders, fillers, flowing agents and “glues” that are often NON-nutritive substances used in nutritional products. Many of these substances are questionable and are often used as inexpensive-fillers-to fill up the capsule the rest of the way when there is a low amount of nutrients. We believe it is unnecessary to take nutritional products that have questionable, potentially harmful, non-nutritive excipients.

What about tablets?

Tablets must contain excipients by their nature (that is how they are made; they cannot be made without them); therefore, we believe a wise choice is to avoid nutritional products as tablets when possible. One common example of a questionable excipient is magnesium stearate, an inexpensive lubricating agent used in capsules and tablets. Research shows it may be immune-compromising.

How do we keep from falling out of cellular harmony?

Consuming nutrients that are synthetic or that have degraded resonant frequencies (from nutrients that have been poorly grown or contaminated with chemical additives, etc.) may dampen the cell’s resonant frequency.

Do you list ALL ingredients on the label?

Edens Essentials lists all ingredients on each of its product labels. In the past, it has been noticed that some manufacturers downplayed the use of questionable excipients in their products by failing to list them in their catalogs or websites. Recent FDA laws now require the listing of all ingredients, including excipients, on product labels so it is now easier for the practitioner to identify products that contain undesirable or unwanted ingredients.

Do your products contain excipients?

Our products do not contain added excipients. Our products are also made without questionable preservatives (such as sodium benzoate) and contain no added coatings, shellac, or hydrogenated oils.

We also do not use talcum powder, a suspected carcinogen, in the manufacturing process, although the use of this agent is common in the nutritional supplement industry. Rarely will you find talcum powder listed on the label of another manufacturer’s product, even though they have used it in their manufacturing process. Edens Essentials products are made without talcum.

Do your products contain magnesium stearates?

We do not add magnesium stearate from either animal or vegetable sources to our products because research shows that it may convert to formaldehyde (a metabolic stressor/contaminator). Formaldehyde is also linked as a carcinogen by the U.S. Department of Healthand Human Services.

What is the source of your vegetable capsules?

Our vegetable capsules are made from tree fiber. Our certificate of analysis verifies that no undesirable solvents are used to make our capsules. Unfortunately, some companies use vegetable capsules that have solvent residues.

Should I take my supplements with meals or between meals?

Typically, most products can be taken with meals. For specific recommendations, please refer to the label’s suggested use.

Why would the color of the ingredients in a capsule look slightly different from batch to batch?

Since Edens Essentials manufacturing partners source many ingredients in their natural state, the color, texture and even odor of a product may vary somewhat from batch to batch or from season to season. Despite these natural variations, each product contains its exact formula and is rigorously tested for purity, identity, and quality as are all of our products.

Can your products be taken during pregnancy or lactation?

Edens Essentials does not make recommendations concerning the use of products during pregnancy or lactation.

Why don't you use gelatin capsules?

Gelatin capsules are typically derived from bovine sources and may contain questionable constituents. Gelatin capsules are half the cost of vegetable capsules and are much harder to digest than vegetable capsules. Gelatin capsules may only partially dissolve and may have a sticky, glue-like effect in the body.

For people who want the best delivery system when consuming nutritional ingredients, solvent-free vegetable capsules offer superior digestibility, convenience and purity as well as providing beneficial fiber and easier absorption. This becomes a very important issue when you consider that a person may be taking nutritional supplements on a daily basis for many years.

What testing do you do on materials and products?

Ingredients, in process formulas and finished products are tested according to the GMP requirements and beyond, to ensure the quality of the product and verify that the product meets the established specifications for identity, strength, purity and composition. Our products are third party tested and many are additionally tested by the manufacturers in state-of-the-art scientific labs dedicated to the use of advanced analytical methods, including high performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, mass spectrometry and high performance crystal spectroscopy, to ensure our products meet label claims for potency, purity and identity.

How do you identify botanicals?

Botanicals are identified using the most appropriate for that botanical and can include morphology, microscopy, high performance thin layer chromatography, and organoleptic analysis.

What are organoptics?

It is an evaluation using the senses- taste, smell and visual analysis.

Are your products meant to treat, prevent or cure various health conditions?

Consult with a physician before use if you have a serious medical condition or use prescription medications. A doctor’s advice should be sought before using any supplemental dietary product. Our products and content are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
