Life continues to bring NEW experiences into our lives. With it comes the questionableness of the unknown. How do we deal with these unfamiliar introductions into our lives? Each day brings us small changes but what about the ones we consider BIG? Others may tell us about their adventures in these things, or we might read about what can be expected but until we experience it, we don't know how it will affect us.
The 3rd grade was to be my last year at "Gem," the one room schoolhouse. The comfort of knowing all the people, knowing the location and the routine around me. School was closing and I would be going to a big school with as many as 15 students of the same grade in one room. No longer would I walk to school past my grandparents' house and down the familiar dirt road. I was going to get on a school bus with lots of people I didn't know and go far away to a place I didn't know. What would it be like? Who could I trust to take care of me? All alone, just me.
The school was huge for me. How could I not get lost? Sarcoxie was a small town, but so big for me. The doors of the elementary school opened into long halls of many rooms. The grades were K-6 with each grade having several rooms. The doors all looked alike up and down the long halls. How would I know which room was mine?
I was in Mrs. Broadways' class. She was a tall, blonde woman with a warm smile. I had a separate classroom for music and there was a large room for eating lunch. In the afternoon there was a milk break. You would bring a nickel and in the afternoon your class would form a line and go to a vending machine where you could get milk, even chocolate. It was great.
After a few weeks all the questions I had about the NEW were answered. Knowing God was with me. Knowing my parents would not send me into a bad situation. These things were comforting and still are as I face new unknown things each day. God has promised He will not forsake me or leave me.
Isaiah 41:10 "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed for I am you God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
