Could Your Morning Coffee Be the Secret to Aging Gracefully?
If you start your day with a small cup (or three) of coffee, you might be doing more than just waking up — you could be supporting your long-term health, too.
A new study presented this week at the American Society for Nutrition’s annual meeting suggests that caffeinated coffee — not tea, decaf, or soda — may help middle-aged women maintain both mental clarity and physical strength as they age. Researchers followed over 47,000 women for decades and found that those who regularly drank coffee were significantly more likely to “age gracefully,” avoiding chronic disease, memory issues, and physical decline.
Even more surprising? Each additional small cup of coffee was tied to a 2% to 5% increased chance of aging well — while soda had the opposite effect.
